The foundation for this new home will be built upon the existing footprint of a small, dilapidated stone country house and its adjacent barn. Given the unsafe structural condition of the existing structures, the building’s stones will be meticulously dismantled and then seamlessly reintegrated into the construction of the new house.

By embracing this sensitive approach, the design will organically blend the old and the new, creating a harmonious integration with the established Sicilian country house aesthetic. The width and sloping terrain of the plot has informed the layout of the plot and pool, envisioned as a natural stream that hugs the contours of the land, blending seamlessly with the surrounding topography.

This process of thoughtful integration not only reduces waste but also imbues the new home with a sense of place, resulting in a residence that feels authentically rooted in its context, a harmonious confluence of vernacular character and modern functionality.

The guest cottage sits nestled within the footprint of the property's existing sheep barn, taking direct inspiration from the materials and building methods characteristic of these humble farm structures. The cottage's cane roof, rough-hewn ceiling beams, and exposed dry-stacked stone walls all evoke the authentic, time-honoured vernacular of the original outbuildings.
